From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Francis Chappell Funeral directors (Ex Nash funeral directors) took us through all of the stages of mums funeral at the end of June.
It was such a relief that we had professional people, making the funeral plans much easier as this difficult time. Thankyou from Shirleys' family and friends.
Nash’s of Welling Funeral Directors were very friendly and compassionate. Annette was very understanding and gave us good advice at the crucial time we needed it.
Everything was done very professionally. On the day of the funeral everything went so smoothly and Shevoun was very sensitive I and could not fault her in any way. She put me at ease from start to finish and made a hard day very memorable
Annette was kind, sympathetic and knowledgeable.. She went over and beyond to make my hisband's funeral a memorable (without too much sadness) day. I cannot recommend Nash Funeral Directors enough. I have engaged them for my own funeral.
Very good and professional
The lady I dealt with was really helpful and respectful during my dealings with her. She was very supportive both with the preparation for my relatives funeral and also on the day at the crematorium. She made sure everything went without a hitch.
Thank you for taking the time to send your online review to us. I am pleased that our team looked after you so well. I am pleased that all of the arrangements were carried out to your satisfaction.
